SO WHAT IS WORLDFLIGHT ?

Welcome to the WorldFlight 2011 Blog ... The "WorldFlight Group" is a collection of Six Full size Airliner Simulators who unite each year to raise money for Charity by flying a "Virtual" Flight around the World.  The event takes place in November (6th - 13th 2011)
The Simulators are Physically located in Different parts of the World with 2 in Australia, 2 in the UK one in Germany and one in Austria.

THE ROUTE
The Route consists of 45 separate flights with approximately one hour in between on the ground for re-fuelling and change of crew members.  Each Simulator completes ALL 45 flights !
This means the SImulators are in use for 24 hrs per day for 1 week.  The event is actually in the Guiness Book of Records as the Longest Virtual Flight ever undertaken.

WorldFlight is in its 11th Year and this year is the 6th Year that UK WorldFlight has Participated and personally my 10th year as I was also on the Australian Crew in Sydney
(I hope the Crew buy me a Cake !)

REALISM
Each of the Simulators is a fully working replica flightdeck, between us we have three Boeing 747-400 and three Boeing 737-800's  Each Simulator uses Real World procedures and checklists and uses Charts sponsored by Jeppesen , in addition software in the simulators is able to read Real World Weather conditions, time of day and apply them ... in other words if we are in Iceland and its Sunset, Snowing and Windy that is actually what we see out of the window !  Also we have live Air traffic Control provided by the VATSIM network, VATSIM members around the world provide us with Air Traffic Controllers, they see us on their screens and we have voice communication with them for a fully immersive experience, especially getting used to the varying accents around the world even though English is spoken.
All this realism and the fact that we fly in both roles, "Captain" and "First Officer" make for a Trip like no other for the crew members taking part .... Each Simulator has a crew of different sizes, here at UK WorldFlight there are just 7 Pilots so no doubt we will be feeling a little Jet lagged by the end ! :)
